Singapore Airlines targets net zero by 2050. Here is what it has actually committed to so far

Singapore Airlines Group has committed to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050, a target shared by most major full service carriers worldwide. The details behind that pledge vary by airline, so here is exactly what SIA has committed to.

The airline runs a Voluntary Carbon Offset Programme that lets passengers estimate the emissions from their flight and put money toward verified offset projects. SIA and its subsidiary Scoot have also set a target of sourcing 5% of total fuel requirements from sustainable aviation fuel by 2030. Sustainable aviation fuel can cut life cycle carbon emissions by roughly 80% compared with conventional jet fuel, though supply remains a bottleneck for the whole industry.

The SIA Group takes part in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation, a global mechanism airlines are moving toward as part of industry wide decarbonisation efforts. Separately from its climate work, the airline’s SIA Cares fundraising drives support community causes in Singapore.
